Waterfalls, wildflowers, waterfowl
Don't miss the spring show!
Well, there went winter -- and already Mother
Nature's debuting her next act! A colorful
show of spring wildflowers,
amazing birds, and some beautiful waterfalls
are now
appearing in Plumas County forests.
Right now don’t miss the Canada
geese, herons and ducks that are nesting near
the lakes and streams. Of special interest
check out the sandhill cranes and
yellow-headed blackbirds in Sierra Valley.
Spring also brings the sound of songbirds
throughout
the county.
On the way to Plumas County, stop at
Table Mountan on Hwy 70 just west of
Oroville, for
the first rush of spring wildflowers. As you
continue up the Feather River Canyon, redbud
are in
great form plus numerous waterfalls are
cascading off sheer canyon walls.
The valleys, rivers and meadows will also
soon be bursting with
lupines, California poppies, Indian paint
brush, dogwood, and more.
Take a drive into
places like Bucks Lake, Snake Lake, Spanish
Creek, Red Clover Valley, or hike the lower
elevation trails such as the Cascades, the
Butterfly Botanical Area or the Feather River
Canyon. Later on, in June and July,
wildflowers are abundant
in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, and the
wet meadows around Lake Almanor and Lake Davis.

Mouthwatering event in April
Who'd ever think you'd find gourmet cuisine

On Saturday , April 14, "Taste of

incredible sampling event at the
Plumas-Sierra Fairgrounds in Quincy.
Here's your chance to try out virtually
all of the Northern Sierra's best fine dining
choices all in one shot, and pair the fare
with distinctive vintages shipped in from
neighboring small family wineries.
Sounds swanky, but come in jeans and

A spring picnic in Sierra Valley
You can hear it, see it and smell it - spring
has arrived in the largest valley in the
Sierra Nevadas. The Sierra Valley east of
Portola is dotted with great old barns,
soaring eagles and songbirds with the Feather
River meandering throughout.
The Sierra Valley Picnic on Saturday, May
26 offers an opportunity to explore the
wonders of this little known valley by foot,
car, bike or canoe. Fun nature activities
for the kids plus bird watching in the
evening and guided wildflower hikes are a few
of the day's offerings. Pack your own basket
and dine out in a picnic spot with
extraordinary sweeping vistas.
Best of all, this event is free!
Organizers (Sierrra Farmstead, Plumas Audubon
Society, and Feather River Land Trust) just
want to share their expertise and the beauty
of the valley with you.
