Find Peace on Earth
'Tis the Season ...
...to
treat yourself and your family to a mountain getaway.
During this time as we say good-bye to "Awesome Autumn" and
prepare for winter activities, there is plenty to do around
Plumas County. Sunny, crisp days present the perfect
opportunity for an
afternoon outing
... a scenic bike ride along
Lake Almanor's west shore, a hike in the woods, or
fishing from a quiet lakeshore. And for
those cooler days, stop into a museum and learn about the
county's fascinating and colorful history, check out
Lassen
Volcanic National Park's new visitor center for a little natural
history, or do a bit of shopping for that special one-of-a kind
gift.
Getting into the holiday spirit? Come join in the
season's festivities in a quaint mountain town, featuring light parades, tree
lightings, bon fires, holiday refreshments, and opportunities to
purchase unique, hand-crafted gifts.

Winter
wonderland
Forbes discovers longboard races...
Soon
the peaks
and forests will be covered with a blanket of snow, and
winter activities will abound in Plumas County. One
activity gaining popularity with spectators and
participants is the Historic Longboard Revival Series held
annually at the Eureka Ski Bowl in
Plumas-Eureka State Park.
Look in the upcoming issue of Forbes magazine for an article
featuring this event, which celebrates the 1855 origin of
downhill ski racing in Johnsville. Plumas-Eureka is also
a great place to take the kids for a day of sledding,
snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
Looking for a less strenuous way to enjoy the outdoors? Try
ice fishing at one of several lakes, take a snowmobile tour,
or watch a dog sled race.
After a day in the snow, curl up by a warm fire and relax
in a cozy cabin, quaint bed and breakfast inn, or an upscale
vacation home with a mountain view. Make sure to ask about "Winter
Specials."

Finding the perfect Christmas tree
The fun is in the hunt ...

What better way to enjoy a
family outing than a trip into the mountains to select your own
Christmas tree? Once again, U.S.
Forest Service
tree-cutting permits and maps of designated cutting
areas are available throughout Plumas County for only $10. Buy
one when you get here, or you can order by mail from the U.S.
Forest Service before your trip.
And when is the last time you and the kids hitched up the
buckboard and rode into the forest singing and laughing, and
sipping hot cocoa?
On Saturday & Sunday, Nov.
29 & 30th or Saturday & Sunday, Dec. 6th & 7th,
join the
gang at
Greenhorn Guest
Ranch near Quincy for a hearty chuck house lunch at
noon and then load up on the horse-drawn wagon at 1 p.m. to ride
into the forest and pick out your perfect Christmas tree! The
tree is free and the wagon ride is only $15 per person.
(Permits are supplied.) On the trail, you'll enjoy hot
chocolate and cookies, sing a few carols and revel in the beauty
of the High Sierra. After you return from your voyage into the
woods, head for the family saloon for music and caroling.

Mountains of food
Dine out
on holiday cuisine
If cooking is not is not on your agenda this holiday
season, take your family for a day of play in the
mountains followed by a scrumptious meal at one of many
restaurants in Plumas County offering Thanksgiving and
Christmas day dinners. Two eateries that have decided
to stay open this winter are Cafe Mohawk near Graeagle
and Cafe Q, on the Lake Almanor Peninsula. Cafe Mohawk
is offering a theme-dinner once a month starting
Thursday, Nov. 20 serving an
Asian fusion meal. Be sure to make reservations. Cafe
Q, will continue to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner,
and is taking reservations for Thanksgiving and holiday
