Lake Almanor Report - courtesy James Huffmon

Headed to Lake Almanor this morning with Dave Johns and was greeted by perfect conditions!
Surface water temperature was 61 at 8am when we launched and had warmed to 63 by 11am.

We boated 10 Smallmouth Bass between 2-1/4 and 4lbs. They were all males who had just moved up into the stump fields and gravel beds.
Water clarity was about 9ft so we were able to see every fish we caught. I caught mine by drop shotting a Prizm Shad Roboworm and Dave caught his on a 6" Camo worm on a 1/4oz darter head.
The action is just going to get better from here!

Fishing at Frenchman Lake has been great this past week. Had a good report on the fly fishing from Truckee River Outfitters guide, Rob Anderson. His party caught and released 47 beautiful rainbows caught float tubing, using flies on the north end of the lake. Another party caught 14 lbs of fish using Salmon, Peach and Rainbow Powerbait. Bank fishermen using nightcrawlers are getting limits also.
Gary Bonano of Cold Springs, NV reported that he and his fishing partner, Ral Klundby of Portola, CA have been catching many rainbows off the bank in the coves above Lunker Point. Gary reports that the fish have an attitude, so try your luck with Cone Heads, Copper Johns, or black Copper Johns.

Lures you should try either trolling or casting: Panther Martins, yellow with black spots - and frog-type Kastmasters.

Water temperature is cold as we have had cool nights. Fish should not be too deep.

Lake Almanor report courtesy Doug Neal, Almanor Fishing Adventures. 530.258-6732

Surface temps averaging around @ 53.5 degrees
Clarity continues to improve to 12 ft..
4490.88 Ft. Elevation,
1,031,299 acre feet storage.
The north fork of the Feather is pouring in water, high and fast.
The diversion Dam is rerouting some of that addition flow around Chester.
Bailey Creek is flowing strong, along with several season creeks and streams around both basins.

For the second year in a row, Lake Almanor is full.
It took very little run off to "Top Off" the lake...And the main runoff has just started.
The difference between last year and this year is, Last year we got record snowfall. Cold runoff poured into the basin from every river, creek, stream, and ditch.
So much cold water, it took deep into summer before surface temps began to rise, the hex hatch was a dud.
This year. PG&E water managers cut back on the amount of water released, allowing Lake Almanor to retain higher winter levels of stabilized water, temperature wise.
Also this winter Lake Almanor did not ice over thick, we had some thin ice that melted away daily during the entire winter, which was much lighter and warmer than 2010.
That being said, Right now, conditions are just perfect.
